My Testimony For God

By: Becky Stephens ~ November 1999

I had been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus about 30 years ago.  It was not inherited from what we know of my family's medical history.  I married later in life and decided not to have any children that could possibly get the same disease.  I denied the disease for a long time and then started claiming it in my 20's.  In my mid twenties I had diabetic retinopathy.  I had laser surgery on both eyes to stop that from progressing and it did.  I was told then that I had started to develop kidney disease, but it was mild.

I was a human pincushion, as Pastor Lonnie put it, taking insulin shots at least twice a day and testing blood sugars about 4 to 5 times a day.   My caring and loving husband Rock had to call 911 because of low blood sugars more times that he could count on his hands. He always tried to avoid the call but couldn't always get me to come around quick enough. I thank God for his patience with the diabetes and me.

As I got older the kidney disease progressed. I knew by the blood tests and my physical symptoms that I was getting close to kidney failure.  My dearest and best friend Helen called me (we have known each other since I came to Florida from Pennsylvania), and worked together for many years.  She invited me to attend a church that she recently had started going to, so I went with her one night. I had never been to a church like this before.  I was brought up in a Presbyterian Church where my Dad (who helped build the church) and Mom were active members when we were kids.  So Palm Harbor Word of Faith was a new and welcome experience for me considering I had not been attending any church.  Pastor Lonnie and Pastor Kelli invited my husband and I over to their home for dinner.  That's the night we prayed and accepted Jesus into our hearts and confessed him as Lord, right at their kitchen table, with our sister Helen there beside us. I thank God that he found us and that Helen loved us enough to make sure she knew where we were going to spend eternity.

I thank our Lord for Pastor Lonnie's preaching and teaching of God's word.  He has prayed for me several times.  The associate pastor, Derrick Kirby prayed the prayer of faith over me at a Sunday evening service with the rest of the church family. I now know that's when I received my healing though I didn't know it at the time. I began to get in the Word and slowly began to quit claiming diabetes and began to speak the Word on healing.
